Gummiressurser refers to the natural and synthetic materials used in the production of rubber products. Natural rubber is primarily derived from the latex of the Hevea brasiliensis tree, commonly known as the rubber tree. This latex is a milky fluid that contains rubber particles suspended in water. The tapping process involves making incisions in the bark of the tree to collect the latex. Once collected, the latex undergoes several processing steps, including coagulation, washing, and drying, to produce raw rubber.

Synthetic rubber, on the other hand, is a man-made polymer produced from petroleum byproducts. It is synthesized through various chemical processes, such as polymerization of monomers like butadiene, styrene, and isoprene. Different types of synthetic rubber exist, each with unique properties tailored for specific applications. Examples include styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR), polybutadiene rubber (BR), and ethylene propylene diene monomer (EPDM) rubber.

The choice between natural and synthetic rubber depends on the desired characteristics of the final product, such as elasticity, durability, resistance to heat, chemicals, or abrasion. Both types of rubber are vital raw materials for a wide range of industries, including automotive (tires, hoses, belts), manufacturing (footwear, seals, gaskets), and consumer goods (gloves, balloons). Sustainable sourcing and production methods for both natural and synthetic rubber are increasingly important considerations within the industry.
