Guanabano

Guanabano, also known as soursop or graviola, is the fruit of Annona muricata, a species of flowering plant in the Annonaceae family. This tropical fruit is native to the Caribbean, Central America, and northern South America. Guanabano is a large, prickly, green fruit with a creamy white pulp that is sweet and tart. The flavor is often described as a combination of strawberry, pineapple, and citrus.

The fruit contains numerous small, black, inedible seeds. Guanabano is typically eaten fresh, although it is also used in juices, smoothies, ice creams, and candies. In some cultures, the leaves and bark of the guanabano tree are used in traditional medicine for their purported health benefits, although scientific evidence supporting these claims is limited.

Nutritionally, guanabano is a good source of vitamin C, dietary fiber, and various antioxidants. It is relatively low in calories. The tree itself is evergreen and can grow up to 20 feet tall. It prefers warm climates and well-drained soil. The fruit ripens quickly once picked and has a short shelf life, which can make it less common in non-tropical regions. Despite its name and the common association with sourness, the ripe fruit's sweetness is often more pronounced.
