Gryffindors

Gryffindors are members of Gryffindor House, one of the four houses at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Founded by Godric Gryffindor, the house values courage, bravery, nerve, and chivalry. Members are known for taking bold actions in defense of friends and the greater good; while bravery is a core trait, not all Gryffindors are reckless.

The house is symbolized by a lion, with scarlet and gold as its colors. The Sorting Hat places new students into Gryffindor based on their traits and preferences during the start of each academic year. The house emphasizes acts of courage, loyalty to companions, and moral decision-making.

Gryffindors reside in Gryffindor Tower, with the common room and dormitories accessed through a portrait entrance, traditionally the Fat Lady. The head of Gryffindor House is Professor Minerva McGonagall. The house has produced many notable witches and wizards, including Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, Ron Weasley, Ginny Weasley, Sirius Black, James Potter, Remus Lupin, and Albus Dumbledore (an alumnus and former Headmaster).

Gryffindor maintains a central role in the school’s traditions and rivalries, particularly with Slytherin, and is known for its contributions to Quidditch and various heroic deeds in the wider wizarding world.
