Grundstationen

A grundstationen, or base station, is a fixed radio transmitter and receiver that forms a node in a wireless communication network. These stations are crucial for enabling mobile communication, acting as the central point for devices within a specific geographical area to connect to the wider network. When a mobile device, such as a smartphone, needs to send or receive data, it communicates with the nearest grundstationen. This station then relays the information to other base stations or to the core network, which ultimately directs it to its destination.

Grundstationen are integral to cellular networks, Wi-Fi hot-spots, and other wireless technologies. In cellular systems, a network is divided into cells, with each cell served by a grundstationen. The coverage area of a grundstationen is known as its cell. As a mobile device moves from one cell to another, its connection is seamlessly handed off from one grundstationen to the next, ensuring continuous service.
