Gregoriánského

Gregoriánského is the genitive singular form of the Czech adjective gregoriánský, used to denote something related to the Gregorian tradition or to figures named Gregory. The adjective derives from Latin gregorianus, which in turn comes from Gregorius, a name associated with Pope Gregory I and with later papal reforms. In Czech, gregoriánský is applied across historical, liturgical, musical, and calendrical contexts.

The term is most commonly encountered in two major domains. First, in liturgy and music, where it appears in phrases such as gregoriánský chorál or gregoriánská hudba, referring to Gregorian chant, the medieval plainchant tradition associated with the church and traditionally linked to Pope Gregory I. Although traditionally connected to Gregory, scholarly work notes that the chant’s development was gradual and collaborative across monastic communities. Second, in calendrics, with gregoriánský kalendář designating the Gregorian calendar introduced by Pope Gregory XIII in 1582 to reform the Julian calendar; this calendar is now the predominant civil calendar worldwide.
