Gravitational waves, ripples in spacetime predicted by general relativity, were directly detected for the first time in 2015. These waves are generated by cataclysmic cosmic events, such as the merger of black holes and neutron stars. The study of gravitacionet continues to be a vital area of research in physics and astronomy, offering insights into the structure and evolution of the universe.
