Gratificações are a form of payment in some legal systems, particularly in Brazil, that are considered a voluntary bonus or reward given to an employee beyond their regular salary. They are not typically considered a mandatory part of wages but rather a discretionary benefit offered by the employer. The term can translate to "bonuses" or "gratuities."

The nature of gratificações can vary. Some may be based on performance, either individual or company-wide, while others might be granted for seniority, special achievements, or as an incentive. The legal treatment of gratificações is important, as they can sometimes be incorporated into an employee's overall remuneration, impacting calculations for benefits like vacation pay, 13th salary (a mandatory Christmas bonus in Brazil), and severance pay.

Employers often use gratificações as a tool to motivate employees and recognize exceptional contributions. However, the consistency and predictability of these payments can differ. If gratificações are paid regularly and predictably over a period, courts may interpret them as having become a habitual part of the employee's salary, leading to their inclusion in other financial calculations.
