Gråskaletall

Gråskaletall, often translated as grayscale number, refers to a numerical representation of a color's intensity on a scale from black to white. In digital imaging and printing, grayscale typically ranges from 0, representing pure black, to 255, representing pure white. Intermediate values correspond to varying shades of gray.

These numbers are commonly used in computer graphics, photography, and printing to define monochromatic images. Each pixel in a grayscale image is assigned a single value representing its brightness. This value is then translated into a shade of gray by the display device or printer. For instance, a pixel with a gråskaletall of 128 would appear as a mid-gray.

The concept is fundamental to understanding how black and white images are stored and processed. It allows for precise control over the tonal range of an image, from subtle nuances to stark contrasts. Gråskaletall is also a key component in color models like RGB, where the red, green, and blue values are equal, effectively creating a shade of gray. When R=G=B, the resulting color is grayscale, with the intensity determined by the common value.
