Gombe

Gombe is a place-name used for several locations in Africa, most notably a Nigerian state and its capital city, and a Tanzanian national park.

Gombe State is a state in northeastern Nigeria. It was created on 1 October 1996 from part of Bauchi State and borders several other states. The state’s capital and largest city is Gombe, which serves as the administrative and economic center. The economy centers on agriculture, trade, and light industry, with crops such as millet, sorghum, and groundnuts commonly grown in the area.

The city of Gombe is the capital of Gombe State and lies inland in the central part of the state. It hosts state government offices, markets, educational institutions, and serves as a regional hub for surrounding rural communities.

Gombe National Park, also known as Gombe Stream National Park, is a protected area in Tanzania along the northwestern shore of Lake Tanganyika in the Kigoma Region. Established in 1968, it is the smallest national park in Tanzania. The park is renowned for long-running chimpanzee research conducted by Jane Goodall and colleagues since the 1960s. It preserves forested hills, streams, and a range of wildlife, and is a destination for researchers and visitors interested in primatology and ecology.
