Goawaybird

Goawaybird is a colloquial term primarily used in Australia and New Zealand to refer to the Southern Boobook owl (Ninox novaeseelandiae). This name originates from the owl's distinctive "boobook" call, which sounds like the bird is saying its own name.

The Southern Boobook is the smallest and most common owl in Australia. It is a nocturnal hunter, preying on insects, small mammals, and birds. Its plumage is typically mottled brown and white, providing excellent camouflage against tree bark. During the day, they roost in dense foliage or tree hollows, becoming active at dusk.
