Goatsucker
Goatsucker is a colloquial term used in various cultures, most notably in parts of Europe and Latin America, to refer to a group of nocturnal birds belonging to the order Caprimulgiformes. These birds are often characterized by their large eyes, wide mouths, and mottled plumage, which provides excellent camouflage during the day. The name "goatsucker" is thought to derive from an ancient, unfounded belief that these birds would fly at night and suck milk from goats. This myth likely arose from the birds' habit of hunting insects near livestock in open fields and pastures, and their large mouths may have contributed to the erroneous association.
In reality, goatsuckers are insectivores, feeding on moths, beetles, and other flying insects caught in flight.
