Glenoiddeformitäten

Glenoiddeformitäten refer to abnormal shapes or structural irregularities of the glenoid cavity, which is the socket of the shoulder joint. The glenoid cavity is a shallow, pear-shaped depression in the scapula (shoulder blade) that articulates with the head of the humerus (upper arm bone) to form the glenohumeral joint. These deformities can be congenital or acquired, meaning they can be present at birth or develop later in life due to injury or disease.

Congenital glenoiddeformities can include variations in the size, shape, or orientation of the glenoid. These may be associated with other developmental anomalies of the shoulder girdle. Acquired deformities are often the result of recurrent shoulder dislocations, fractures that heal in an abnormal position, or osteoarthritis. Chronic instability can lead to progressive erosion or flattening of the glenoid rim, a condition sometimes referred to as glenoid bone loss.

The presence of a glenoiddeformität can predispose an individual to shoulder instability and pain. Depending on the nature and severity of the deformity, symptoms can range from mild discomfort to significant limitations in shoulder function and recurrent dislocations. Diagnosis typically involves a thorough physical examination and imaging studies such as X-rays, CT scans, or MRI. Treatment strategies vary widely and depend on the specific deformity, associated symptoms, and the patient's activity level, ranging from conservative management with physical therapy to surgical interventions aimed at restoring joint stability and congruity.
