This process is a fundamental aspect of interior construction and renovation, providing a smooth, uniform surface ready for further decoration such as painting or wallpapering. The primary material used is gypsum plaster, which is mixed with water to create a workable paste. This paste is then applied to the underlying substrate, which can be masonry, concrete, plasterboard, or even previous plaster layers.

The application of Gipsüberzügen involves several stages. First, the surface is prepared, ensuring it is clean, dry, and free from loose material.
