Geosynthetics are a range of synthetic materials used in geotechnical and civil engineering applications to improve the mechanical, hydraulic, or chemical properties of soil or other construction materials. These materials are typically made from polymers such as polyester, polypropylene, or polyethylene, and can be manufactured into various forms including geotextiles, geomembranes, geogrids, and geocomposites.

Geotextiles are permeable fabrics that are used for separation, filtration, reinforcement, and drainage purposes. They prevent the mixing of dissimilar soils, allow water to pass through while retaining soil particles, and provide tensile strength to improve the stability of soil structures. Geogrids are grid-like structures that reinforce soils and improve their load-bearing capacity, often used in retaining walls and road construction. Geocomposites combine two or more geosynthetic materials to leverage the benefits of each, such as drainage composites that incorporate geotextiles and geomembranes.
