Genotüübilised

Genotüübilised are individuals who participate in the Estonian civic activism movement known as the Genotüüp (Genotype) initiative. The movement, which was founded in 2018, aims to raise awareness about genetic diversity and genomics within the Estonian population.

Genotüübilised are typically highly educated individuals who have undergone genetic testing to determine their genetic profile. They often share their genetic information online, either voluntarily or through publicly accessible genetic databases, in an effort to promote genetic awareness and inclusivity.

The Genotüüp initiative was born out of the Estonian Biobank initiative, which allows Estonian citizens to donate their biological samples for use in research purposes. In 2018, the initiative expanded to include genetseeni (genetic benchmarks) and assessment of an individual's genetic profile based on their genetic diversity.

Participation in the Genotüübilised movement is seen as a way for individuals to contribute to the prioritization of research and to promote the inclusion of genetic research in healthcare. Research studies and data analyses published online often provide information on the distribution of genetic traits within known data samples, with an option for additional genotype information.

By allowing their genetic information to be publicly available, Genotüübilised promote research on human biology and genetics, research which contributes to better health outcomes for all members of the Estonian society. The trend gains attention as more people participate, offering invaluable insights for the benefit of the wider community.
