Genotypverhältnis refers to the proportion of different genotypes within a population. A genotype is the genetic makeup of an organism, specifically concerning the alleles present for a particular gene or set of genes. For example, in a population of plants, a gene for flower color might have two alleles: red (R) and white (r). The possible genotypes would be RR, Rr, and rr. The genotypverhältnis would describe the frequency of each of these genotypes in that specific population.

Understanding genotypverhältnisse is crucial in population genetics and evolutionary biology. Changes in these proportions over time can indicate evolutionary forces at play, such as natural selection, mutation, genetic drift, or gene flow.
