Geiran

Geiran is a historic coastal city-state located along the western shore of the fictional continent of Valoria. The name derives from the Geiran language and is commonly interpreted as "edge of the sea." Geiran developed as a maritime trading hub from the late Iron Age and reached its political and cultural zenith between the 2nd and 6th centuries CE, when it maintained a network of ports and overland caravan routes.

Geography and environment: It sits at a natural harbor beneath chalk cliffs, with a protected inner basin that sheltered ships and warehouses. The adjacent hinterland supported orchard cultivation and timber production.

History: According to inscriptions and material remains, Geiran was founded by seafarers from inland polities around the 4th century BCE. By the 2nd century CE, it produced its own coinage and mineral goods. The city formed loose alliances with neighboring polities and was often neutral in regional conflicts. In the medieval period, Geiran came under the influence of larger kingdoms and eventually became a town within the realm of the Kingdom of Halden, before entering a modern municipal framework.

Economy and culture: The economy centered on port trade, amphorae production, wine, and shipbuilding. Cultural life combined coastal and inland traditions, with the Temple of the North Star and the Gate of Winds as notable landmarks. The Geiran script is known from inscriptions in public buildings and archives.

Modern status: Today Geiran is a protected historic district and archaeological site, with ongoing research and limited tourism.
