Gehelean

Gehelean is a fictional sovereign state located on the northern coast of the continent of Arinor. The country covers about 78,000 square kilometers and has a population around 4.3 million. Gehelian, the official language, is spoken by the majority, with Keshan and Tolin as minority languages in urban areas. The government operates as a semi-presidential republic with a multi-party system and a unicameral Assembly.

Gehelean geography features a temperate climate, with coastal plains in the north and rolling highlands toward the interior. The Silver Sea borders the country to the north, while the Great Gehr River and the Gehelean Ridge shape much of the landscape. Forests and farmland support a diversified economy oriented toward sustainable energy, fishing, agriculture, and light manufacturing.

Gehelean governance developed from regional principalities into a unified republic after mid-20th century reforms. A liberal constitution established in 1952 created the framework for executive powers shared between a president and a prime minister, and an Assembly elected by proportional representation. The country joined regional trade blocs in the late 20th century, proceeding with market-oriented reforms and gradual modernization of public services.

Gehelean culture emphasizes education, science and regional arts. The public education system provides free schooling through secondary level, while universities attract scholars from neighboring regions. The country hosts annual literary, music and maritime festivals, and preserves several museums highlighting coastal trade and geology. Cuisine blends grain-based staples with seafood, vegetables and herbs, reflecting farm-to-table traditions in urban and rural communities.
