GeVBereich

GeVBereich, or GeV-Bereich, is a term used in particle and nuclear physics to denote the energy scale characterized by energies on the order of GeV (gigaelectronvolts). In natural units, energies, masses and momenta are commonly expressed in GeV, and the GeV-range encompasses phenomena from light meson spectroscopy to processes involving heavier quarks and electroweak bosons.

GeVBereich typically extends from roughly 0.1 GeV up to several hundred GeV. At the lower end, light mesons and baryons (such as pions and kaons) and their resonances appear in spectroscopy and decay studies. In the intermediate GeV range, charmonium and bottomonium states (for example J/ψ at about 3.1 GeV and Υ around 9–10 GeV) are studied. At the upper end, electroweak-scale processes and heavy-flavor production lead to particles such as the Z boson at about 91 GeV; in a broader context, the W and Higgs bosons (masses around 80 GeV and 125 GeV) are also relevant within this scale. Phenomena at higher energies typically belong to the TeV regime but are often discussed in relation to the GeV scale.

GeVBereich is investigated with a variety of accelerator technologies, including fixed-target experiments and electron–positron colliders as well as proton or antiproton colliders. Detectors in this range employ tracking systems, calorimetry, Cherenkov detectors, and time-of-flight measurements, along with muon systems, to determine energies, momenta, decay rates and cross sections. The GeV range provides essential input for understanding hadron structure, quark confinement, resonance dynamics and electroweak interactions in the Standard Model.
