Geüstert

Geüstert is a small municipality in the northern part of the fictional Nordmark region, within the district of Sonnenfurt. It covers about 22 square kilometers and has a population of roughly 2,800 people. The town lies along the Geißbach river and is surrounded by mixed forests and agricultural fields. The local climate is temperate, with warm summers and cold winters.

Geüstert dates back to the 12th century, when it developed as a market settlement along river routes. It received town privileges in the mid‑14th century and grew as a crafts and trade center. In the 19th and 20th centuries it gradually shifted toward agriculture and light industry, while preserving a well‑preserved historic center featuring half‑timbered houses.

Today the economy combines farming (cereals and dairy), small manufacturing (wood products), and services. Local tourism focuses on the historic core, river walks, and cycling paths. Geüstert is connected by regional roads and is served by a local rail stop on the Nordmark regional line, with frequent services to the regional capital.

Landmarks include Schloss Geüstert, a 16th‑century manor house restored in the 20th century, and the parish church of St. Martin, noted for its late‑Gothic nave. The town hosts an annual harvest festival and a summer music series that draws visitors from nearby towns. The local dialect belongs to the Northmark family of German dialects.
