Gaighat

Gaighat is a municipality in the Udayapur District of the Sagarmatha Zone in Nepal. Located in the Terai region of the country, it is situated at an elevation of approximately 200 meters above sea level. The municipality was established in 2014 by merging the former Village Development Committees of Katunjha, Hachchaur, Joule, Baijanathpur, Gaighat, and Jalpapur. Gaighat serves as the administrative headquarters of the Udayapur District.

The primary economic activities in Gaighat revolve around agriculture, with rice, mustard, and maize being important crops. The region also has some forest resources and potential for tourism, though these are not yet fully developed. The Saptakoshi River, one of Nepal's largest rivers, flows nearby, influencing the local geography and providing a water source. Transportation to and from Gaighat is primarily via road networks connecting it to other major cities in Nepal. The area experiences a subtropical climate with hot summers and mild winters. The population of Gaighat is diverse, with various ethnic groups and languages contributing to its cultural landscape. Educational and healthcare facilities are present within the municipality to serve its residents.
