Gaffney

Gaffney is a city in Cherokee County, South Carolina, United States. It is the county seat of Cherokee County and a regional commercial center in the Upstate, situated along Interstate 85 near the North Carolina border. The city lies roughly 30 to 40 miles southwest of Charlotte, North Carolina, and serves as a transportation hub for the surrounding area.

Gaffney’s origins trace to the 19th century, when railroad expansion spurred settlement and growth as a local trading and manufacturing hub. It developed around textile-related industries and later diversified into logistics and light manufacturing, contributing to the region’s economic development.

One of the city’s best-known landmarks is the Peachoid, a large peach-shaped water tower along I-85 that has become a recognizable symbol of Gaffney.
