Földhullámtípusok refers to the different types of seismic waves that travel through the Earth. These waves are generated by earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, and artificial explosions. Seismic waves are broadly categorized into body waves and surface waves.

Body waves are seismic waves that travel through the Earth's interior. There are two types of body waves: P-waves (primary waves) and S-waves (secondary waves). P-waves are compressional waves, meaning they move in a push-pull fashion, similar to sound waves. They are the fastest seismic waves and can travel through solids, liquids, and gases. S-waves are shear waves, meaning they move by shearing the rock perpendicular to their direction of travel. They are slower than P-waves and can only travel through solids. The different speeds at which P-waves and S-waves travel allow seismologists to locate the epicenter of an earthquake.

Surface waves are seismic waves that travel along the Earth's surface. They are generated when body waves reach the surface. There are two main types of surface waves: Love waves and Rayleigh waves. Love waves are horizontal shear waves that move the ground side to side. They are faster than Rayleigh waves but slower than S-waves. Rayleigh waves are retrograde elliptical waves that cause the ground to move up and down and forward and backward in a rolling motion, similar to ocean waves. Surface waves are generally more destructive than body waves because they have larger amplitudes and longer periods.
