Félretétel

Félretétel is a Hungarian term that translates to "setting aside" or "hoarding" in English. It refers to the act of accumulating and storing items, often with the intention of future use or as a safeguard against scarcity. This behavior can manifest in various forms, ranging from the practical and sensible to the excessive and compulsive.

In its most basic sense, félretétel is a natural instinct for survival and preparedness. People may félretétel food, money, or other resources to ensure they have what they need during times of hardship, economic downturns, or personal emergencies. This can include saving money in a bank account, stocking pantries with non-perishable goods, or keeping essential supplies like tools and medicine.

However, the term can also describe more extreme forms of accumulation. When félretétel becomes excessive, it can resemble hoarding disorder, a mental health condition characterized by persistent difficulty in discarding or parting with possessions, regardless of their actual value. Individuals with hoarding disorder may accumulate large quantities of items, leading to cluttered living spaces that can interfere with their ability to function and pose health and safety risks.
