Féktárcsa

Féktárcsa, often translated as brake disc, is a crucial component of a disc brake system. It is a rotating metal disc that is attached to the wheel hub. When the driver applies the brakes, brake pads are pressed against the surface of the féktárcsa. This friction between the pads and the disc converts the kinetic energy of the vehicle into heat, slowing down or stopping the vehicle.

Féktárcsák are typically made of cast iron due to its excellent friction properties, heat dissipation capabilities, and durability. However, some high-performance vehicles may use materials like carbon-ceramic composites for lighter weight and superior heat resistance. The design of the féktárcsa can vary. Solid discs are common in lighter vehicles and rear axles, while ventilated discs, featuring internal vanes, are used in heavier vehicles and on the front axles of most cars to improve cooling and prevent brake fade.

The performance of the féktárcsa is directly related to the effectiveness of the braking system. Wear and tear are inevitable with use. Over time, the surface of the féktárcsa can become scored, warped, or worn too thin, necessitating replacement. Regular inspection of the féktárcsa is an important part of vehicle maintenance to ensure safe and reliable braking.
