Funktionsanalyser, or functional analysis, is a systematic approach used to understand and improve the performance of systems, processes, or individual behaviors. It involves breaking down a complex entity into its constituent parts and examining the purpose and interaction of each part. The goal is to identify how each element contributes to the overall function and to pinpoint areas where performance can be optimized or problems can be resolved.

In a functional analysis, the focus is on "what does this do?" rather than "what is this?". This perspective is applied across various fields. In engineering, it helps in designing and troubleshooting machinery by understanding the role of each component. In psychology and behavioral therapy, it's used to identify the antecedents and consequences of specific behaviors, helping to understand why a behavior occurs and how it can be modified. For instance, a functional analysis of a problematic behavior might examine what happens immediately before (antecedent), the behavior itself, and what happens immediately after (consequence).

The process typically involves observation, data collection, and analysis. By identifying the specific functions of each element, individuals or teams can make informed decisions about changes, enhancements, or interventions.
