Fuktighetsindikatorer, also known as humidity indicators or moisture indicators, are devices used to visually display the relative humidity level within a contained environment. They are commonly found in packaging for moisture-sensitive products such as electronics, pharmaceuticals, and desiccants. The primary function is to alert users or handlers if the humidity inside a sealed package has exceeded a safe threshold, potentially compromising the product's integrity or shelf life.

These indicators typically work by utilizing a chemical compound that changes color in response to varying levels of moisture in the air. The most common type employs cobalt chloride, which changes from blue (low humidity) to pink (high humidity). However, due to concerns about cobalt chloride's toxicity, alternative, safer compounds are increasingly being used. These newer indicators often employ organic dyes that exhibit reversible or irreversible color changes at specific humidity percentages.

Fuktighetsindikatorer are designed to be simple and easy to read. They usually consist of a printed card or a series of dots, each representing a different humidity level. When the indicator is placed within a sealed environment, the color of the dots will change according to the ambient humidity. For instance, a dot indicating 30% RH might be blue when humidity is low, but turn pink if the humidity rises above that level. This visual cue provides a quick assessment of the environment's moisture content without the need for specialized equipment. They are an essential tool in quality control and storage for products sensitive to moisture damage.
