Therefore, a literal translation could be "lady of heaven's waves" or "queen of the celestial waters."

Within the context of Grímnismál, frumuhimnunnar is one of the many epithets used to describe Odin, the Allfather. This particular epithet is presented in a stanza where Odin, in disguise as Grímnir, is being tortured by King Geirröðr.
