Frekvenciaváltások, often translated as frequency shifting or frequency hopping, refers to a technique used in telecommunications and radio transmissions to change the carrier frequency of a signal at regular or irregular intervals. This method is employed to improve the robustness of communication systems against interference, jamming, and eavesdropping. By rapidly switching between different frequencies, the signal avoids settling on a single frequency that might be experiencing disruption.

The primary advantages of frequency shifting include enhanced security and improved reliability. In secure communication systems, the unpredictable nature of frequency changes makes it difficult for unauthorized parties to intercept or disrupt the transmission without knowing the hopping sequence. This is a core principle behind frequency-hopping spread spectrum (FHSS) technology. In terms of reliability, if one frequency band becomes noisy or blocked, the communication can continue on another available frequency, thus maintaining a connection.

Frequency shifting can be implemented in various ways. Synchronous frequency hopping relies on a precisely synchronized clock between the transmitter and receiver to ensure they switch frequencies at the same time. Asynchronous frequency hopping is more complex and uses a mechanism to allow the receiver to find the transmitter's current frequency without strict synchronization. The choice of hopping pattern, the speed of the shifts, and the range of frequencies used are critical parameters that define the performance and security of a frequency-shifting system. This technique is widely used in military communications, Bluetooth devices, and some cordless phones.
