Franize

Franize is an informal verb formed from the noun franchise. In some contemporary business writing, franize is used to denote the act of converting a business, product, or service into a franchised model, or to expand through franchising. It is not widely attested in standard dictionaries, so its meaning can be ambiguous and its usage remains informal.

Etymology and forms: The term blends franchise with the -ize suffix that yields verbs such as industrialize or formalize. A related noun form, franization, may be used to refer to the process of franchising, but it is rare and not standardized.

Usage and caveats: Examples such as “the company franized its software as a service model” illustrate how the term appears in some entrepreneurial or startup contexts. Such constructions can be unfamiliar to readers and may be interpreted as informal or nonce language.
