Fotogrammetriset

Fotogrammetriset refers to the practice and principles of photogrammetry. Photogrammetry is the science and technology of obtaining reliable information about physical objects and the environment through the process of recording, measuring, and interpreting photographic images and patterns of electromagnetic radiant imagery and other phenomena. It involves taking measurements from photographs, particularly from overlapping photographs taken from different viewpoints, to determine the exact position of surface points.

The fundamental principle behind photogrammetry is triangulation. By analyzing the same point from at least two different photographs taken at known positions, its three-dimensional coordinates can be calculated. This technique is widely used in various fields. In surveying and mapping, it is used to create topographic maps, digital elevation models (DEMs), and 3D models of terrain and structures. Architecture and heritage preservation utilize photogrammetry for detailed documentation, restoration planning, and digital archiving of historical sites and artifacts.

In engineering, it plays a role in monitoring infrastructure, such as bridges and dams, and in creating digital twins of complex machinery. The aerospace industry employs photogrammetry for aerial reconnaissance and mapping. Modern photogrammetry often involves digital cameras and sophisticated software that automates much of the measurement and processing, allowing for rapid creation of detailed 3D models and data. The term "fotogrammetriset" itself is a Finnish adjective meaning "photogrammetric."
