Forvieras

Forvieras is a city-state and regional capital located on the northern coast of the Nordluma archipelago. It functions as a major maritime and cultural hub for surrounding islands and has a long history as a trading center.

The name Forvieras is thought to derive from old harbor terms and means roughly “shore passage.” The exact origin remains debated among scholars.

Geography: The city occupies a natural harbor ringed by limestone cliffs. The climate is temperate maritime, with mild winters and cool summers. The metropolitan area covers about 120 square kilometers and includes the peninsula of Sól and several adjacent districts.

History: Founded as a trading post in the 12th century, Forvieras acquired city rights in the 13th century and developed into a self-governing republic. It prospered through maritime trade, shipbuilding, and finance, later joining regional alliances and shaping local law.

Government: Forvieras operates as a constitutional parliamentary republic. The General Council (48 seats) is elected every four years; a Chief Administrator and rotating cabinet oversee the executive branch. The judiciary is independent.

Economy: The harbor remains central, handling container traffic and ferry services. The economy combines shipping, ship repair, fisheries, manufacturing, finance, and a growing technology sector. Tourism and cultural industries contribute a stable secondary stream.

Demographics and culture: The population is around 185,000. The majority speak Forvieras, with minority communities speaking neighboring languages. Cultural institutions include the Meridian Library, Coral Conservatory, and a Lantern Festival celebrating maritime heritage.

Notable features: The city's historic district, preserved quaywork, and modern transit corridors connect the old town with new districts and parks.
