Fortifikatsioonid

Fortifikatsioonid, also known as fortifications, are defensive structures or systems designed to protect a location from attack. Throughout history, they have been crucial for military strategy and the survival of settlements. Early examples include simple earthworks, palisades, and stone walls, which provided basic protection against siege engines and direct assaults. As warfare evolved, so did the complexity of fortifications.

These structures were designed to withstand catapults and battering rams. With the advent of gunpowder and artillery, fortifications had to adapt significantly. This led to the development of star forts, with angled bastions that could deflect cannon fire and provide flanking artillery positions.
