Forodwaith

Forodwaith is a region in the north of Middle-earth in J.R.R. Tolkien's legendarium. It is a cold and desolate land, primarily situated north of the Blue Mountains and west of the Grey Mountains. The name "Forodwaith" itself is Sindarin, meaning "North-kingdom" or "Northern Waste." This region is sparsely populated by Men, and its history is largely intertwined with the ancient conflicts of Middle-earth.

During the First Age, Forodwaith was the homeland of the Easterlings who allied with Morgoth. Later, in the Second and Third Ages, it became known as the desolate lands from which the Wainriders and other northern peoples would sometimes emerge to invade the lands to the south. The region is characterized by its harsh climate, with long winters and barren landscapes. While not a significant political power in itself, its strategic location and its proximity to other northern territories made it a factor in the broader history of Middle-earth, often serving as a staging ground for invasions or as a place of refuge for those fleeing the south. The nature of its inhabitants and their cultures is not extensively detailed, but they are generally depicted as hardy peoples accustomed to the unforgiving environment.
