The term is used in several markets, including German-speaking regions, to denote the early mass-produced, affordable farm tractors that helped mobilize agricultural mechanization.

Origins and production: The Fordson program began with the Model F, introduced in the late 1910s. Designed for simplicity and ruggedness, FordsonTraktor units were manufactured in the United States and later in European plants, including facilities in Cork, Ireland, to support export markets. The line gained a reputation for ease of maintenance and a lower purchase price compared with horse-powered equipment.

Technical and model range: Over time the FordsonTraktor family expanded to multiple models, spanning light to heavier general-purpose tractors. Common characteristics across these models included gasoline engines, straightforward mechanical transmissions, and options such as rubber tires in later years.
