Folyamatmérnökség

Folyamatmérnökség, often translated as Process Engineering, is a branch of engineering that deals with the design, operation, control, and optimization of chemical, physical, and biological processes. It is a multidisciplinary field that draws upon principles from chemistry, physics, mathematics, economics, and various engineering disciplines. The core objective of process engineering is to transform raw materials into desired products safely, efficiently, and economically.

Process engineers are involved in the entire lifecycle of a process, from conceptual design and feasibility studies to detailed engineering, construction, commissioning, operation, and eventual decommissioning. They utilize various tools and techniques, including process simulation software, material and energy balances, thermodynamic calculations, and fluid mechanics principles. Key aspects of their work include selecting appropriate equipment, designing control systems to maintain desired operating conditions, ensuring compliance with safety and environmental regulations, and identifying opportunities for process improvement and cost reduction.

The applications of process engineering are vast and span numerous industries. These include the petrochemical and chemical industries, pharmaceuticals, food and beverage production, energy generation, water treatment, and the production of materials like plastics and metals.
