Fogínygyulladás

Fogínygyulladás, commonly known as gingivitis, is a prevalent inflammatory condition affecting the gums. It is the earliest stage of periodontal disease and is characterized by inflammation of the gingiva, the part of the gum around the base of the teeth. The primary cause of gingivitis is the buildup of plaque, a sticky film of bacteria that forms on teeth. If plaque is not regularly removed through proper oral hygiene, the bacteria within it release toxins that irritate the gums, leading to inflammation.

Symptoms of gingivitis typically include redness, swelling, and tenderness of the gums. Affected gums may also bleed easily, particularly during brushing or flossing. In some cases, the gum line may recede, making the teeth appear longer. While gingivitis is generally painless, the discomfort from inflamed gums can be noticeable. It is important to note that gingivitis is reversible with prompt and consistent treatment.

The cornerstone of gingivitis treatment is meticulous oral hygiene. This involves regular and thorough brushing twice a day with a fluoride toothpaste and daily flossing to remove plaque from between teeth and along the gum line. Professional dental cleanings are also crucial for removing hardened plaque (calculus or tartar) that cannot be removed by brushing and flossing alone. Dental professionals can also provide guidance on proper brushing and flossing techniques. Neglecting gingivitis can lead to its progression to periodontitis, a more severe form of gum disease that can cause damage to the bone supporting the teeth and potentially lead to tooth loss.
