Fogselymet is a term used to describe a specific meteorological phenomenon. It refers to the condition where fog appears to be particularly dense and persistent, often with reduced visibility to the point where it can significantly impact transportation and daily activities. The term itself is not a scientifically recognized classification but rather a colloquial descriptor that emphasizes the severity of the fog.

The formation of fogselymet is governed by the same principles as regular fog: the cooling of air to its dew point, causing water vapor to condense into tiny droplets. Factors that can contribute to the development of fogselymet include high humidity, calm winds that prevent dissipation, and the presence of condensation nuclei. Geographic features such as valleys or coastal areas can also create conditions conducive to prolonged fog.

When fogselymet occurs, visibility can drop to less than 100 meters, and in extreme cases, even less than 10 meters. This can lead to hazardous conditions on roads, in the air, and at sea. Authorities may issue advisories or warnings to the public, and transportation services might experience delays or cancellations. The duration of fogselymet can vary, sometimes lasting for several hours or even days, depending on the prevailing weather patterns.
