Fluoriryhmä

Fluoriryhmä is a Finnish term that translates to "fluorine group." In chemistry, this term generally refers to elements that belong to Group 17 of the periodic table, also known as the halogens. The halogens include fluorine (F), chlorine (Cl), bromine (Br), iodine (I), and astatine (At), and sometimes tennessine (Ts). These elements share common chemical properties due to having seven valence electrons, meaning they are one electron short of a stable electron configuration.

The most reactive of these elements is fluorine, which is highly electronegative and readily forms ionic or covalent bonds. Fluorine and its compounds are widely used in various applications, including in the production of refrigerants, plastics like PTFE (Teflon), and in toothpaste and water for dental health. Chlorine is another significant member, used in disinfectants, PVC production, and as a bleaching agent. Bromine and iodine also find applications in pharmaceuticals, photography, and as disinfectants. The chemical behavior of the fluoriryhmä elements is characterized by their tendency to gain an electron to form a halide ion with a charge of -1. Their reactivity decreases as one moves down the group.
