Flaschenfütterung, also known as bottle-feeding, refers to the method of feeding an infant or young animal using a bottle filled with liquid. This liquid can be breast milk, formula, or a milk replacer for animals. The bottle is typically equipped with a nipple or teat that the infant sucks on to draw out the liquid.

Bottle-feeding is a common practice for human infants when breastfeeding is not possible, not chosen, or supplemented. It allows caregivers to measure intake accurately and can be shared among multiple individuals, facilitating nighttime feedings or allowing a mother to return to work. For infant mammals raised without their mothers, bottle-feeding is essential for survival, providing them with the necessary nutrients and hydration.

The process involves preparing the milk or formula to the correct temperature and consistency, sterilizing the bottle and nipple, and then allowing the infant to feed until satisfied. Burping the infant during and after feeding is often recommended to relieve swallowed air. While generally safe, improper hygiene or feeding techniques can lead to issues such as gas, colic, or infections.
