Flachstrahls

Flachstrahls, in spray technology, refers to a family of spray nozzles that generate a flat, sheet-like distribution of liquid. Also known as flat fan nozzles in many industries, they produce a broad, relatively uniform spray pattern that resembles a fan when viewed from the side. The term can apply to nozzles designed for agricultural spraying, industrial coating, cooling, cleaning and dust suppression.

Principle and design

The liquid exits the nozzle through a narrow slot or a pair of opposing jets that are shaped by the nozzle geometry and deflector surfaces to form a thin, wide sheet. The resulting spray is characterized by a fan angle, which describes how far the spray expands laterally, and by the flow rate set by operating pressure and nozzle size. The sheet thickness is influenced by the slot width, nozzle construction, and liquid properties such as viscosity and surface tension. Materials commonly used include stainless steel and engineered polymers, chosen for chemical resistance and durability. Amanufacturers often offer adjustable or interchangeable caps to change the spray angle and flow.
