Fjárlagaáætlunin
Fjárlagaáætlunin, often translated as the "state budget" or "fiscal budget," is the central financial plan for the Icelandic government. It outlines the projected revenue and expenditure for the upcoming fiscal year, typically spanning from January 1st to December 31st. The process of creating and approving the fjárlagaáætlunin is a significant undertaking in Icelandic politics and economics.
The Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs is primarily responsible for drafting the initial budget proposal.
Once drafted, the fjárlagaáætlunin is submitted to the Alþingi, the Icelandic Parliament, for review and debate.
