Fixedpixel is a term used in digital imaging and display technology. It refers to a display element, typically a pixel, that has a fixed resolution or a fixed physical size. In essence, it's a single, indivisible point on a screen that contributes to the overall image. Unlike vector graphics, which are defined by mathematical equations and can be scaled infinitely without losing quality, fixedpixel elements are rasterized. This means they are composed of a grid of individual pixels.

The concept of fixedpixel is fundamental to understanding raster image formats such as JPEG, PNG, and GIF, as well as the operation of displays like LCD and OLED screens. The number of fixedpixel elements determines the resolution of an image or display. For instance, a display with a resolution of 1920x1080 has 1920 pixels horizontally and 1080 pixels vertically. When an image is displayed on a screen, its fixedpixel data is mapped directly to the screen's fixedpixel grid.

Challenges can arise when displaying fixedpixel images on screens with different resolutions or when resizing fixedpixel images. Scaling up a fixedpixel image often results in a loss of quality, appearing blurry or "pixelated" because the original fixedpixel information is stretched. Conversely, scaling down can lead to a loss of detail as some fixedpixel information is discarded.
