Fivephase

Fivephase is a term used in multiple domains to denote systems organized around five components or phases. In East Asian philosophy it is closely linked to Wu Xing, the five elements: wood, fire, earth, metal, and water, together with their dynamic relationships.

In Wu Xing, the elements interact through generating (sheng) and overcoming (ke) cycles, which are used to interpret natural phenomena, body physiology, medicine, seasons, and even moral and aesthetic balance. The model provides a framework for understanding change and harmony across various cultural practices.

In engineering, five-phase systems refer to electrical architectures that distribute power across five phases instead of three. Five-phase configurations can be used in power electronics, generators, and motors to achieve smoother torque, reduced ripple, and improved fault tolerance, at the cost of more complex control and wiring. Five-phase brushless DC motors and servo drives are common examples.
