Fitzcarraldo

Fitzcarraldo is a 1982 epic historical drama film written and directed by Werner Herzog. It stars Klaus Kinski as Brian Sweeney Fitzgerald, known as Fitzcarraldo, an ambitious Irish-Peruvian opera impresario in late 19th-century Peru who dreams of bringing grand opera to the jungle town of Iquitos.

To realize his vision, Fitzcarraldo plans to haul a 320-ton steamship over a hill from the Amazon River to the Urubamba River, thereby connecting the rainforest with the Andean highlands. He organizes a crew and local laborers to move the vessel using ropes and pulleys, a feat that forms the centerpiece of the film's most famous sequence.
