Fittedarvot, or fitted values, refer to the predicted values generated by a statistical or mathematical model based on observed data. These values are calculated by applying the model’s parameters to the input variables, providing an estimate of the dependent variable’s expected outcome. Fitted values are central to regression analysis and other predictive modeling techniques, where they help assess how well the model explains the variation in the data.

In linear regression, for example, fitted values are computed as the sum of the model’s intercept and the weighted sum of the independent variables, using the estimated coefficients. These values serve as the basis for evaluating model performance through metrics such as mean squared error (MSE) or R-squared. They also enable residual analysis, where the difference between observed and fitted values (residuals) is examined to identify patterns or deviations that may indicate model shortcomings.

Fitted values are particularly useful in diagnostics, as they help detect issues like heteroscedasticity, non-linearity, or influential outliers. By comparing fitted values to actual data points, researchers can refine models to improve accuracy and reliability. In machine learning, similar concepts apply, where fitted values represent predictions made by algorithms like decision trees, neural networks, or support vector machines.

While fitted values provide useful insights, they are not the same as observed data and should be interpreted with caution. Overfitting—a situation where the model captures noise rather than true patterns—can lead to overly optimistic fitted values that fail to generalize to new data. Thus, validation techniques such as cross-validation are often employed to ensure that fitted values remain meaningful and practical for real-world applications.
