Finansministern
Finansministern, or the Minister of Finance, is a senior member of the Government of Sweden and heads the Ministry of Finance (Finansdepartementet). The minister is responsible for the formulation and implementation of economic policy, fiscal policy, and the management of state finances. Core duties include preparing the annual state budget and any supplementary budgets, proposing tax policies and reforming tax law, and supervising debt management and government guarantees. The minister coordinates with other ministries to align public spending with policy priorities and presents the budget to the Riksdag for approval. In addition to budgetary and tax tasks, the minister oversees financial regulation, public financial management, and macroeconomic policy in close coordination with the central bank and financial authorities. Monetary policy is set independently by the Riksbank, but the Finansministern participates in macroeconomic dialogue and represents Sweden in international fiscal and financial matters, including EU affairs and international organizations.
The minister is appointed by the Prime Minister and serves as a member of the cabinet. The
