Financado

Financado (often written financiado in Spanish and Portuguese) is a term used in Romance languages to describe something that has received financial support. In English, it is commonly translated as financed or funded. The concept comes from the verb financiar, meaning to provide capital or credit for a project, asset, or activity.

A financed initiative can rely on various sources of capital, including debt financing (loans or bonds), equity financing (sale of ownership stakes), grants, subsidies, or public-private partnerships. Debt financing creates an obligation to repay with interest; equity financing transfers some ownership and future profits to investors; grants and subsidies do not require repayment but may carry conditions or reporting requirements. Large-scale projects, such as infrastructure or research programs, are often financed through a mix of public funds, private investment, and loans.

Labeling a project as financiado implies there are external claims on its cash flows and potential conditions imposed by lenders, investors, or grantors. It can affect control, risk, and financial reporting. Conversely, a venture that is self-financed relies entirely on internal resources without external creditors or investors.

Examples include a house financed with a mortgage, a startup financed through a venture round, or a cultural project funded by a government grant. The term is used in formal and journalistic contexts to indicate that external capital supports the activity rather than the organization funding it from its own reserves.
