Festkalendern
Festkalendern, also known as a festival calendar, is a traditional German custom that involves hanging a series of small, often wooden or cardboard figures, called "Weihnachtskrippen" or "Adventskalender," on the wall. Each figure represents a day of the Advent season, which begins on the fourth Sunday before Christmas and ends on Christmas Eve. The figures are numbered and opened one by one each day leading up to Christmas. Inside each figure, there is a small gift, such as a chocolate, a sweet, or a small toy. The practice of Festkalendern is believed to have originated in the 19th century and has since become a popular tradition in Germany and other parts of Europe. It is a way for families to count down the days until Christmas and to look forward to the holiday with excitement and anticipation. The tradition of Festkalendern is often accompanied by special songs and prayers, and it is a cherished part of the Christmas season for many families.
