Fernlichter
Fernlichter, also known as high beams or main beams, are the brightest setting for a vehicle's headlights. They are designed to illuminate the road far ahead, significantly improving visibility in dark conditions, such as unlit rural roads or during heavy fog. Unlike dipped headlights (Abblendlicht) which are aimed downwards to avoid dazzling oncoming drivers, fernlichter are directed upwards and forwards, projecting a powerful beam of light over a greater distance.
